NEWS: Major Infrastructure Development Finally Underway for Electric Car Owners

Australia is one of the slowest countries to adapt to the sustainable movement of electric cars, providing only one electric charge station for every 14.3 petrol stations.

local start-up company ChargeFox, noticed this was one of the biggest stumbling blocks for owning an electric car in Australia, and have successfully raised $15 million from investors towards its infrastructure development.

Rapid stations are set to be placed around 21 locations across the country, with the potential to deliver a range of 400 kilometres in just 15 minutes.

Chargefox’s chief executive officer, Marty Andrews, firmly believes that this is a necessary and pivotal moment for encouraging people to buy electric vehicles and move Australia towards sustainable living.

Mr Andrews said, “Chargefox is committed to sustainable mobility. The charging stations will enable all modern EV drivers to confidently drive between Australia’s major cities.”

“We have a vision that one day, 100 per cent of road transport will be powered by renewable energy and from day one, our ultra-rapid chargers will be accessible to all Australian drivers.”

A study by the University of New South Wales found that the key factor influencing drivers to not purchase electric vehicles was the scarce public charging stations available.

Co-author of the study, Professor Graciela Matternicht said, “This was far more important than the availability of cheaper vehicles, the second most cited barrier to uptake.”

So, while this technology is still relatively new, Australians are very intrigued by electric cars. It’s expected that ChargeFox’s funding will encourage Australians to purchase electric vehicles and catapult the country towards a sustainable future.
